Editor review
Mirror Descend is a chunk-based platformer with twenty checkpoint zones. Death respawn keeps level state and the pause menu offers a chunk-reset option. The combination of cheap respawn and chunk-reset means the player never gets locked in a doom loop.
The pace is slower than a momentum-platformer. Each chunk asks you to plan a route before committing. The platforms are static; the enemies move on fixed patterns; the puzzle is in the route choice, not the input timing.
I played across a couple of Newcastle Newcastle Metro commutes. The format suits commute length. Each chunk runs around ninety seconds and the save preserves chunk-level progress.
The weak spot is the visual feedback on dying. The death animation is fine on keyboard but the touch controls obscure the death icon and you sometimes miss the respawn cue. A larger touch-mode death indicator would help. Two-and-a-half stars; the chunk design is strong, the touch feedback needs work.
